Any owner or authorized agent who intends to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert, or replace any electrical system or to cause any such work to be done, shall first make application to the electrical inspector and obtain the required permit.

Permits shall not be required for the following:

  1. Any work to be done in conjunction with a building permit for which inspection fees have already been paid.

  2. Minor repair work, including replacement of lamps or the connection of approved portable electrical equipment to approved permanently installed receptacles. Such repairs shall not include any addition to, alteration of, replacement or relocation of any electrical wiring.

  3. The installation of any temporary system required for the testing or servicing of electrical equipment or apparatus.

Exemptions from the permit requirements shall not be deemed to grant authorization for any work to be done in any manner in violation of the provisions of any laws or ordinances of this jurisdiction.

Emergency repairs:
Where equipment replacements and repairs must be performed in an emergency situation, the permit application shall be submitted within the next working business day to the electrical inspector.

Placement of permit:
The permit or copy shall be kept on the site of the work until the completion of the project.

Permits Fees:
The electrical inspector shall collect for the cost of electrical inspections the following fees: twenty ($20.00) dollars per inspection within the corporate city limits and twenty-five ($25.00) dollars per inspection outside of the corporate city limits. The applications shall be on the forms provided and approved by the electrical inspector. Upon payment of the above fee and the approval of the electrical inspector, the permit will be issued. Work performed for which a permit has been issued that does not meet the approval of the electrical inspector is subject to a re-inspection fee of thirty ($30.00) dollars.

Permits may be obtained at the building inspector's office, located at 111 S Cherokee, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the electrical inspector at (918) 456-0651 ext. 2266.
