Plumbing Permits

Any owner or authorized agent who intends to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any plumbing or gas system, or cause any such work to be done, shall first make application to the plumbing inspector and obtain the required permit.

Permits Are Not Required for the Following

Plumbing

  • Any work to be done in conjunction with a building permit for which inspection fees have already been paid.
  • The stopping of leaks in drains, water, soil, waste or vent pipe; provided, however, that if any concealed trap, drainpipe, water, soil, waste or vent pipe becomes defective and it becomes necessary to remove and replace the same with new material, such work shall be considered as new work and a permit shall be obtained and inspection made as provided in this code.
  • The clearing of stoppages or the repairing of leaks in pipes, valves, or fixtures, and the removal and reinstallation of water closets, provided such repairs do not involve or require the replacement or rearrangement of valves, pipes, or fixtures.

Fuel Gas

  • Any work to be done in conjunction with a building permit for which inspection fees have already been paid.
  • Portable heating appliances.
  • Replacement of any minor part that does not alter approval of equipment or make such equipment unsafe.

Exemptions from permit requirements shall not be deemed to grant authorization for any work to be done in any manner in violation of the provisions of any laws or ordinances of this jurisdiction.

Emergency Repairs

Where equipment replacements and repairs must be performed in an emergency situation, the permit application shall be submitted within the next working business day to the plumbing inspector.

Repairs

Application or notice to the plumbing inspector is not required for ordinary repairs. Such repairs shall not include the cutting away of any wall, partition or portion thereof, the removal or cutting of any structural beam or load bearing support; nor shall ordinary repairs include addition to, alteration of, replacement or relocation of any standpipe, water supply, sewer, drainage, drain leader, gas, soil, waste, vent or similar piping.

Placement of Permits

The permit or copy shall be kept on the site of the work until the completion of the project.

Permit Fees

The plumbing inspector shall collect for the cost of plumbing inspections the following fees: $20 dollars per inspection within the corporate city limits and $25 dollars per inspection outside the corporate city limits. The applications shall be on the forms provided and approved by the plumbing inspector. Upon payment of the above fee and the approval of the plumbing inspector, the permit shall be issued. Work performed for which a permit has been issued that does not meet the approval of the plumbing inspector is subject to a re-inspection fee of $30 dollars.

Permits may be obtained at the building inspector's office, located at 201 East Delaware Street, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the electrical inspector at 918-456-0651, extension 266.
