Public Relations Specialist
The City of Tahlequah strives to be transparent in all aspects of its city government. The Public Relations Specialist is here to assist any media outlet, resident or visitor with information regarding the City as well as the surrounding area.
In an effort to make information available and easier to attain, the Mayor and City Council voted to approve the development of a new website in 2017. It brings the City of Tahlequah into the 21st Century and not only looks good but functions well.
In 2017, the City of Tahlequah hired Jami Murphy as its first Public Relations Specialist. In addition to her educational background from Northeastern State University, she brings 10 years of publications experience.
"I guess you could call me a transplant. I grew up in Locust Grove, Okla., and graduated from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. I met my husband here and we raise our children here too. I worked for the Cherokee Phoenix newspaper for nearly 10 years," said Murphy. "I began working for the City of Tahlequah in 2017 and I've plugged myself into this growing community and its culture as a citizen of the Cherokee Nation."
Murphy added that she intends to respond as quickly and effectively as she can and ensures that correct and valuable information is disseminated to the public.
"My goal is to show residents why they live here, visitors why they come here and those just passing through why they should come back," she said. "I want to help you learn about our city government and everything our town has to offer and if I cannot help you, I'll find someone who can."
