Incorporated in the State of Oklahoma in 1979, the Oklahoma One-Call System, Inc. (OKIE811) was formed for the purpose of preventing damage to underground facilities. On April 22, 1981, the Oklahoma Underground Facilities Damage Prevention Act was singed into law. The act provided that owners and operators of underground facilities must register, through a notification system, and all excavators must give notice to underground operators at the notification system prior to excavation.
OKIE811 is a free service to the excavator and homeowner. When OKIE811 receives a request, they transmit a tick to each underground facility operator that has services in the area. The facility operator then sends a locator to the excavation site to mark the approximate location of their underground facilities in the area.
