2023 General Election

Tahlequah, OK qualified electors will vote on Tuesday, February 14th, 2023, for Mayor, Ward 3 Council Member, and Ward 4 Council Member.

On January 24th, 2023 at 6:00 pm, a Candidate Forum will be held at Go Ye Village (1201 W 4th St).  This is an opportunity to learn more about the candidates and their stances on issues affecting our city.  Don't miss this opportunity to get informed and make an informed decision when it comes time to cast your vote on February 14th, 2023.

There will also be a special election in the City of Tahlequah on February 14th, 2023, to approve or reject proposed changes to the Tahlequah City Charter - Resolution No. 12-05-2022 (B).  A total of eight Propositions will be placed on the ballot for qualified electors residing in Tahlequah, OK to vote on.

Proposition No. 1

This proposal seeks to amend the Charter of the City of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, by allowing the people of Tahlequah to consider amendments to the Charter at any general or special election rather than only once every four years. The details regarding implementation of this proposition can be found in Resolution No. 12.06.2022 (A) Shall the proposition be approved?

Proposition No. 2

This proposal seeks to amend the Charter of the City of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, by increasing the number of City Councilors elected from each Ward from one (1) Councilor to two (2) Councilors, with the Mayor position continuing to be elected at large. The details regarding implementation of this proposition can be found in Resolution No. 12.06.2022 (B) Shall the proposition be approved?

Proposition No. 3

This proposal seeks to amend the Charter of the City of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, by adding a procedure for the recall of any elected City official upon the request of at least twenty-five percent (25%) of the registered voters qualified to vote for the officials whose recall is sought. If the required number of votes sign a petition for recall, a recall election to consider the removal of the elected official from office will be held. If a majority of the voters at the recall election approve the recall, then the official will be removed from office and a second election will be held to fill the vacancy created by the recall. Proposition No. 4

This proposal seeks to amend the Charter of the City of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, by applying gender neutral terms throughout the Charter and does not seek to change any substantial requirement or procedure. This proposal seeks to amend the Charter of the City of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, by removing obsolete language in the Charter concerning the City Department of Public Health and Chief Health Officer of the City, and renumber accordingly. This proposal seeks to amend the Charter of the City of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, by removing obsolete language in the Charter concerning the boards for City Library, City Parks, and City Cemetery, and renumber accordingly. This proposal seeks to amend the Charter of the City of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, by removing obsolete language in the Charter concerning the Police and Firemen's Pension Fund, and renumber accordingly. This proposal seeks to amend the Charter of the City of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, by allowing the City to exercise the same powers Oklahoma state law gives to other cities in Oklahoma concerning urban renewal projects.
