TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The City of Tahlequah recently mailed 70 letters and pamphlets to local residents and business owners describing the new East Downing Boulevard Commercial District project.
The City’s intent is to inform and educate those in the area about the potential revitalization project and allow for public comment.
According to letter, the concept involves creating special tax incentives, along with a “complete street” design involving sidewalk systems, designated pedestrian crossings, street reconfiguration, and enhanced street lighting.
“The intent is to stimulate economic growth for the newly designated East Downing Boulevard in providing more efficiency for higher traffic flow, better accessibility to businesses, tax incentives, and encourage a pedestrian-friendly environment,” the letter states.
The goal is create a desirable point of destination which will ultimately benefit the entire Tahlequah community.
Included in this mailer is a brochure that describes the project - what it is, what it will provide for the community and what the area tax payers can expect from it.
“It’s also important to note that all the information provided was taken from a studies done by the Federal Highway Administration and the U.S. Department of Transportation,” the letter states.
