1. How do I have my brush picked up?

Brush pickups are arranged by calling the Street Department at 918-456-4661; ask for Vicki. She will take your name and your address and send someone out (usually within two days) to pick up your brush.

2. What kinds of materials does the Street Department pick up?

The Street Department only picks up wood material. There can not be any other types of material such as Styrofoam or metal. This means that any wood being disposed of cannot have any nails in it.

3. How far out will you pick up brush?

The Street Department only picks up brush within the Tahlequah City Limits.

4. Who will you pick the brush up for?

Any private citizen can have their brush hauled away. However, the Street Department will not pick up brush or wooden yard waste for contractors. Any limb cutting done by a contractor should include removal as well as the cutting.

5. Do I contact the Street Department for an inoperative street light?

No. Tahlequah Public Works Authority handles the maintenance and repairs of street lights. Contact them at 918-456-2564.

6. Does the Street Department place street signs?

The Street Department is responsible for street and traffic signs inside of the city limits.

7. Does the Street Department paint street lines?

The Street Department is responsible for striping of the City streets and for city-owned property.

8. How do you sand / salt the streets in icy weather?

Street Department crews will begin treatment of roadways or snow removal with the following listed arterial streets:

• Muskogee Avenue / Grand Avenue
• College Avenue
• Water Avenue
• Bluff Avenue
• 4th Street
• Choctaw / Ross Street
• Downing Street
• Allen Road

The Street Commissioner or Street Superintendent will inspect the situation and determine the number of crews and the methods used. Once arterial streets, emergency department streets, hospital streets, and school streets (when in session), and nursing home streets are adequately treated for the snow or ice crews will move to collector streets.

Quadrants

From the intersection of Muskogee Avenue and Downing Street, Tahlequah will be divided into four quadrants. Northwest or Zone 1, Northeast or Zone 2, Southeast or Zone 3, and Southwest or Zone 4. Crews will work from this intersection outward in each quadrant. Periodic assessments will be made by the Street Commissioner or the Street Superintendent to determine effectiveness of the work. These routes will be followed unless an emergency situation arises. Emergency situations will be determined by the Street Commissioner in conjunction with the Street Superintendent, Police Chief, and Emergency Management Director.
