Mechanical
Any owner or authorized agent who intends to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any mechanical or gas system, or cause any such work to be done, shall first make application to the mechanical inspector and obtain the required permit.
Permits Not Required for the Following
Mechanical
- Any work to be done in conjunction with a building permit for which inspection fees have already been paid.
- Portable heating appliance.
- Portable ventilation equipment.
- Portable cooling unit.
- Steam, not or chilled water piping, within any heating or cooling equipment.
- Replacement of any part which does not alter its approval or make it unsafe.
- Portable evaporative cooler.
- Self-contained refrigeration system containing 10 pounds (4.54 kilogram) or less of refrigerant and actuated by motors of 1 horsepower (746 W) or less. This shall not include complete condenser change outs.
Fuel Gas
- Any work to be done in conjunction with a building permit for which inspection fees have already been paid.
- Portable heating appliance.
- Replacement of any minor part that does not alter approval of equipment or make such equipment unsafe.
Exemptions from permit requirements shall not be deemed to grant authorization for any work to be done in any manner in violation of the provisions of any laws or ordinances of this jurisdiction.
Emergency Repairs
Where equipment replacements and repairs must be performed in an emergency situation, the permit application shall be submitted within the next working business day to the mechanical inspector.
Repairs
Application or notice to the mechanical inspector is not required for ordinary repairs. Such repairs shall not include the cutting away of any wall, partition or portion thereof, the removal or cutting of any structural beam or load bearing support; nor shall ordinary repairs include addition to, alteration of, replacement or relocation of any gas piping, or mechanical equipment regulated by the international mechanical code.
Placement of Permits
The permit or copy shall be kept on the site of the work until the completion of the project.
Permit Fees
The mechanical inspector shall collect for the cost of mechanical inspections the following fees:
- $30 per inspection within the corporate city limits
- $50 per inspection outside the corporate city limits
- $60 per reinspection
The applications shall be on the forms provided and approved by the mechanical inspector. Upon payment of the above fee and the approval of the mechanical inspector, the permit shall be issued. Work performed for which a permit has been issued that does not meet the approval of the mechanical inspector is subject to a reinspection fee of $60.
