The Citizen’s Police Academy was introduced in the United States in 1985. The goal of the academy is to educate and provide a better understanding of how a police department functions and operates.
The free academy will be an 11-week series of classes that will take place once a week.
Attendees get instruction on a variety of subjects including; recruiting, the hiring process, training division, traffic overview and driving simulator, use of force, officer survival, special operations teams overview, K-9 demonstration, tours of the Cherokee County Detention Center, communication division and police department; criminal investigations division, School Resources Officers and special investigation presentations.
Applicants are screened through a criminal background check before being accepted.
